Mitsubishi Eclipse Conversion

driving past the gas station, with my ev grin, priceless!

gutted the car , removed anything and everything that had to do with the i.c.e. getting rid of some dead weight. it covered the bed of a 4'x8' flatbed trailer. hope to take it to the salvage yard soon, and determine what it all weighed.

with the help of my brother, we've constructed an adapter plate that will bolt the motor to the transmission bell housing.

learned that the aircraft generator has a removable shaft that made it easy to take to a machine shop, and have a coupler made to mate to the original transmission's clutchplate. had to give up the clutch, had a broken throwout bearing collar on the transmission.

got the motor/clutch coupler back from the machineshop, put everything together, and now have a electric powered transmission.

mounted the throttle control box for the controller, and have it cabled to the original foot pedal.

discovered that the car has a 12vdc vacuum pump that controlled the cruise control unit. looking at using it to pull a vacuum for the power brakes.

the electric motor is not to exceed 250 f, so i've taken the high speed electric fan, from the radiator, and mounted it to where it blows air into the electric motor. installed a digital temperature guage to monitor the motor's temp.

thanks to a gentleman on the http://www.evdl.org list, it's been decided that an alltrax 7245 controller, will be the best option for this motor/generator.

during my wait for the controller, ordered tires that were original to the 70's volkswagen beetle for the car. they are the same diameter as the original eclipse tires, but, less in width. this will lower the rolling resistance, yet keep the speedometer correct.

ordered the paktrakr battery monitor. i'm beta testing it for the company. it's an outstanding ev item, check them out at: http://www.paktrakr.com

paktraker has shipped, and i've received my axe 7245 controller. now all i've got to do is get it all installed and running.....

installed the axe7245 controller, and the paktraker battery monitor.

mounted 3ea pentium4 heatsinks w/fans on the axe 7245 controller to help keep it cool.

very impressed with what the paktraker can do. click on the paktraker features photo.

still breaking in the battery bank, can't wait to see what the range ends up being.

but best of all, the car is finally rolling down the road!

to be continued.........
